Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has declared that women are not allowed to hold the highest leadership role in the party due to Islamic principles. The party, following Quranic instructions, believes men are to lead women. This statement comes ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming elections on February 12.

The Women’s Wing Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami, Nurunnisa Siddika, emphasized the party’s adherence to Islamic ideals during a press briefing at the Election Commission premises. She explained that their interpretation of Islamic teachings prohibits women from occupying top leadership positions in any Islamic organization.

Siddika defended the party’s decision not to nominate female candidates for parliamentary elections, citing it as an internal organizational choice. She urged a broader discussion on women’s rights, dignity, and security in society rather than focusing solely on leadership positions.

Jamaat Women’s Wing chief Habiba Chowdhury highlighted the significant female electorate in Bangladesh. She raised concerns about attacks on female Jamaat activists, alleging political motives behind these incidents. The party recently engaged with the Chief Election Commissioner to address electoral issues.
