A Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) election campaign office in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur, Bangladesh, was vandalized, as reported by local media. The incident took place at the BNP campaign office in the Dolardarga area of Putimari Union under the Dinajpur-6 constituency. Witnesses stated that Jamaat-e-Islami activists attacked the office, causing damage to property and assaulting two BNP activists present at the scene.
Nure Alam Siddiqui, the Officer-in-Charge of Nawabganj Police Station, mentioned that the vandalism occurred following a campaign procession by BNP activists supporting Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a BNP Standing Committee member and MP candidate. A dispute arose between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami supporters during a roadside campaign meeting near the BNP office, leading to the assault on BNP workers and the destruction of the campaign office.
In response to the situation, Assistant Returning Officer Zillur Rahman deployed security forces in the area to maintain law and order and prevent further disturbances. The incident comes amidst escalating political tensions as the country gears up for the upcoming national elections on February 12.
