Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, recently returned to Dhaka after a 17-year exile in the UK. Reports indicate that he earned Tk 676,000 in the 2025–26 tax year, mainly from shares and bank deposits. Rahman leads an alliance against Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming general elections on February 12.
According to the Prothom Alo newspaper, Tarique Rahman’s movable and immovable assets total approximately Tk 19.7 million. His movable assets, including cash, bank deposits, shares, gold, and furniture, are valued at around Tk 19.3 million. Additionally, he holds shares worth Tk 6.85 million and has fixed deposits of over Tk 9.024 million.
Tarique Rahman’s immovable assets include two acres of non-agricultural land valued at Tk 345,000. He also received 2.9% of land as a gift, with the value listed as unknown. Notably, he paid Tk 101,453 in income tax for the 2025–26 tax year and does not face any criminal cases currently.
Tarique’s wife, Zubaida Rahman, declared an income of approximately Tk 3.561 million in the same tax year, paying about Tk 558,000 in income tax. She listed assets worth over Tk 10.53 million, primarily in cash and bank deposits. In contrast, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman, declared immovable and movable assets worth around Tk 15 million, paying Tk 30,000 in income tax for the same period.
