Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman, expressed confidence in his party’s potential “historic victory” in the national parliament election. Preliminary results indicate that the BNP has secured a significant number of seats in the election. Serious allegations of electoral misconduct, including rigging and violence, have surfaced in various parts of Bangladesh during the 13th parliamentary elections.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conveyed his greetings and congratulations to the people of Bangladesh on the party’s anticipated success in securing a majority of seats. Reports from constituencies nationwide suggest that the BNP has obtained more than half of the seats in the election. Instances of violence and irregularities, such as the use of money to influence voters, have marred the electoral process in several areas of the country.
Amid the ongoing voting process, incidents of violence and electoral malpractice have been reported across Bangladesh. A Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Zainal Abedin, was apprehended and fined for distributing cash during voting in Tangail District. The situation further escalated with violent clashes at multiple polling stations, resulting in the unfortunate death of a political figure during the election day.
