Bangladesh moved ahead of India in the ICC World Test Championship rankings by defeating Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test in Sylhet. The victory secured a 2-0 series win for Bangladesh as they claimed the last three Pakistan wickets on the final day. This win elevated Bangladesh to fifth place in the WTC 2027 standings with a win-loss percentage of 58.33%, pushing India down to sixth place.

India, currently in sixth place, will play a one-off Test against Afghanistan, which does not count towards the WTC cycle. Pakistan, on the other hand, remained in eighth place in the standings following their loss to Bangladesh. Pakistan, chasing a target of 437 runs, were bowled out for 358 on the final day, with Mohammad Rizwan top-scoring with 94 runs off 166 balls. Despite Rizwan’s efforts, Pakistan fell short of the target.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Taijul Islam who took six wickets, played a crucial role in securing the series victory. Spinner Taijul Islam’s performance was instrumental in restricting Pakistan’s chase. Shoriful Islam also made a significant contribution by dismissing Mohammad Rizwan for 94 runs, giving Bangladesh a crucial advantage. This series win marked Bangladesh’s first home victory against Pakistan and their second consecutive series win over their Asian rivals.
