The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to postpone both Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches scheduled for Tuesday following the death of Khaleda Zia, the country’s former prime minister. The announcement came just before the toss for the first match of the day between Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The BCB expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Begum Khaleda Zia, acknowledging her support for cricket development during her time as Prime Minister.
In a statement, the BCB highlighted Khaleda Zia’s significant contributions to cricket infrastructure and the sport’s growth in Bangladesh. The board emphasized her vision and encouragement that played a pivotal role in the advancements cricket enjoys today. The BCB extended heartfelt condolences to the nation and prayed for the eternal peace of her soul. As a mark of respect and in honor of Khaleda Zia’s legacy, the BCB announced the cancellation of the day’s scheduled BPL T20 matches and their rescheduling.
The ongoing 2025-26 season of the BPL began on December 26, with three matchdays completed so far. The decision to postpone the matches involving Sylhet Titans vs Chattogram Royals and Dhaka Capitals vs Rangpur Riders is not expected to significantly impact the overall schedule due to breaks between matchdays.
