In response to the release of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League, the Bangladesh sports ministry has urged the country’s cricket board to relocate the T20 World Cup league matches from India to Sri Lanka. Bangladesh’s upcoming T20 World Cup fixtures, including games against the West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal, were originally set to take place in India.
Mustafizur Rahman, who recently became the costliest Bangladeshi player in the IPL, was let go by the Kolkata Knight Riders following instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This decision came amidst controversies surrounding his participation in the league.
The move to shift the T20 World Cup games stemmed from concerns raised by an advisor to the Bangladesh government, Asif Nazrul, regarding the safety of Bangladeshi players in India. Nazrul emphasized the necessity for the matches to be held in Sri Lanka instead of India due to the prevailing circumstances.
Nazrul, in a Facebook post, directed the Cricket Control Board to formally explain the situation to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and request the relocation of Bangladesh’s World Cup matches to Sri Lanka. Additionally, he called for the suspension of IPL broadcasts in Bangladesh to uphold the respect for Bangladesh cricket and its players.
