Bangladesh’s sports advisor, Asif Nazrul, aims to persuade the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move the country’s match venues due to safety issues. This move follows tensions between India and Bangladesh, leading to the suspension of broadcasting IPL matches in Bangladesh. Nazrul emphasized the importance of ensuring the security and dignity of Bangladeshi cricketers, spectators, and journalists during international events.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested the ICC to relocate Bangladesh’s matches in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from India. Concerns were raised after Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from the IPL due to security reasons. The BCB highlighted the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of the national team amidst escalating tensions.
Nazrul stressed that the issue goes beyond security, touching upon national pride and dignity. The BCB has clarified that the ICC has assured Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup, dismissing reports of an ultimatum. The BCB and ICC are working together to address security concerns and ensure a safe environment for Bangladeshi players during the tournament.
