A Bangladeshi national, Mohammed Mukter Hossain (36), was apprehended by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) troops in north Bengal while trying to enter India from Nepal with an expired visa. Hossain, a resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh, was caught at the BIT check post in Ranidanga with an expired Indian visa. He had entered India in 2023 and stayed in Kolkata after his visa expired. Hossain planned to travel to Europe through Nepal with the help of an agent who also promised him employment.
Hossain, who worked as a welder in Nepal for one-and-a-half years, decided to surrender to Indian authorities for a legal return to Bangladesh after learning about the deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He boarded a bus from Kathmandu to Kakarbhitta and was caught while attempting to cross the Indo-Nepal border into India. Following joint interrogation, he was handed over to the Kharibari police station and an FIR has been filed against him under the Foreigners Act and Passport Act.
