In a successful operation, the UP police and Anti-terrorism squad apprehended a Bangladeshi national in Saharanpur, who had been on the run for 17 years with a ₹25,000 reward on his head. The suspect, identified as Zahid alias Dallu, was found with a Bangladeshi identity card, a fake Aadhaar card, and other suspicious documents.
City SP Vyom Bindal disclosed that the case against the suspect was filed in 2009 under the Foreigners Act at Kutubsher police station. Investigations revealed that out of six Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally, Zahid was the only one who absconded after being granted bail. Despite multiple summons and a non-bailable warrant, he evaded law enforcement until his recent arrest.
During a special campaign to capture wanted criminals, the Saharanpur police received a tip-off about Zahid’s presence. Acting swiftly, a joint team of police and ATS detained him. Interrogations unveiled his true identity and revealed his transient lifestyle across various states since 2009, with his wife reportedly residing in Nepal.
The police recovered incriminating evidence, including a Bangladeshi identity card and a Vivo mobile phone, leading to the registration of a new case against Zahid under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Foreigners Act. Authorities are now delving into his connections, network, and potential associates within the country.
