Karnataka Police have apprehended a 21-year-old BCA student, Suhana, from Sagar in Shivamogga district, for allegedly trafficking hybrid ganja valued at Rs 35 lakh in Mangaluru. Suhana, a final-year student at a college in Kundapura town, was caught selling the contraband on Mulki Railway Station Road by a joint operation of police teams from Panambur and Mulki. The seized 1.40 kilograms of hybrid ganja is reported to have a significant market price.
Several criminal cases have been previously filed against Suhana in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, with the Mulki police initiating an investigation into the recent incident. Investigations suggest that Suhana transported the narcotics from Chennai to Mangaluru, distributing them to students and affluent individuals in the region. Additionally, she faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with past involvements in serious criminal activities coming to light.
The Customs Department at Bengaluru International Airport had also previously registered a case against Suhana for drug transportation. Notably, the Bengaluru Police have heightened their efforts against drug trafficking, with recent operations resulting in the seizure of narcotics worth Rs 14.75 crore. In separate cases, police teams recovered 13.7 kilograms of hydro ganja and MDMA crystals in Nandini Layout and Yeshwanthpur, respectively.
