The BCCI has upheld its policy of not allowing players’ families to stay with them throughout the T20 World Cup campaign. According to the BCCI’s regulations, families can join players for up to 14 days for events lasting over 45 days, while the duration is limited to seven days for shorter tours. The Indian team management sought clarity on the matter but was informed that families would not be accommodated with the players.
India is scheduled to play three league matches at home and one in Colombo against Pakistan during the T20 World Cup. The decision to prevent players’ wives and families from traveling with them, which was temporarily lifted during the Covid-19 pandemic, was reinstated in January following India’s poor Test cricket performances. This move aims to eliminate distractions for players during overseas tours and enhance their focus. The BCCI has also mandated that all players must travel with the team at all times.
India kicked off its T20 World Cup journey with a victory against the USA and is set to face Namibia at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi before clashing with Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo.
