Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia recently engaged in fruitful discussions with board officials in London in preparation for India’s upcoming white-ball series against England, commencing on July 1.
Saikia, sharing the update on social media, expressed optimism about the discussions, stating, “Had some important and productive discussions with BCCI functionaries in London today on matters concerning Indian cricket… Looking forward to the road ahead.”
During the meeting, Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) and chief of the BCCI infra committee, was also present. This interaction occurred at a critical juncture following India’s recent losses in the T20 series against Ireland and the women’s team’s exit from the group stage after a defeat to Australia at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Ireland’s victory over India in the T20 series was marked by an impressive 1-run win in the second T20I, led by notable performances from bowlers Jai Moondra and Matthew Hollard.
India’s tour of Ireland, their first T20 series since the T20 World Cup triumph, sets the stage for a new era under Shreyas’ leadership, with upcoming events like the Los Angeles Olympics and the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2028 on the horizon.
Following the Ireland tour, the Indian squad will head to England for a five-match T20I series from July 1 to 11, followed by three ODIs from July 14 to 19. Shubman Gill will lead the ODI squad, with Shreyas as his deputy, and the return of Virat Kohli is anticipated, pending fitness clearance after missing the Afghanistan series due to injury during IPL 2026.
