Belgium’s Thomas Meunier, a renowned footballer, has officially joined Premier League side Sunderland for the upcoming 2026/27 season. The 34-year-old defender, with an impressive track record of over 550 club appearances and 83 international caps, recently played for Belgium in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Hailing from Sainte-Ode, Meunier rose through the ranks in Belgium before making a mark at Club Brugge, where he clinched titles like the Belgian Pro League and Belgian Cup. His career soared after moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, where he secured multiple domestic league and cup victories during his four-year stint.
Following his successful spell at PSG, Meunier transferred to Borussia Dortmund in 2020, later moving to Trabzonspor and Lille. He is set to join Sunderland’s squad in early August and is eager to represent the club in both domestic and European competitions this season.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Meunier stated, “I am hugely excited and honoured to join Sunderland. The Premier League is one of the most competitive and exciting leagues in the world, and it’s a challenge I’ve wanted to experience.” He emphasized his commitment to contributing his experience on and off the field, aiming to support his teammates and connect with the fans.
