England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, has committed to wearing a helmet at all times during play and practice following a severe facial injury from a cricket ball earlier this month. Stokes expressed concern over batters not using helmets when facing spinners, emphasizing the importance of protection. He shared his resolution after being hit in the face during a net session for his county side, Durham, sustaining damage to his cheekbone, nose, and eye.
Stokes, a key all-rounder for England, underwent surgery for a broken cheekbone post the incident. Despite visible bruising and a minor incision, he confirmed the surgery’s success through a social media post on February 5. Currently sidelined from England’s white-ball and T20 squads, Stokes aims to return during the upcoming series against New Zealand in June, potentially featuring for Durham in the County Championship.
