A police inspector at Bengaluru’s K.P. Agrahara police station was apprehended by Karnataka Lokayukta officials for taking a bribe of Rs 4 lakh to remove a person’s name from a chit fund fraud case. The inspector, identified as Govindaraju, was nabbed while receiving the bribe at the CAR Grounds on Mysuru Road. Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraj mentioned that the inspector had already taken Rs 1 lakh on January 24 as part of the total Rs 5 lakh bribe demand related to a case under the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes (BUDS) Act, 2019.
The accused inspector was caught red-handed accepting money from the complainant near the Chamarajapete CAR Ground. The bribe was allegedly solicited to exclude the accused from the case, as stated by the SP. Govindaraju has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act and placed in judicial custody. Reports indicate that the inspector caused a commotion during his arrest and became aggressive during the operation. A video capturing the inspector’s outburst after being caught taking the bribe has emerged.
Lokayukta officials can be seen detaining the inspector despite his resistance in the video. The inspector’s behavior turned violent, requiring six officials to restrain him. Shouting and causing a scene, the inspector was taken into custody. The bribe demand was linked to the inspector’s investigation of a chit fund fraud case. Prior to the trap, the inspector had attempted to arrest the accused in the case, resulting in a confrontation where the accused resisted police intervention.
