A Class eight student in Bengaluru is fighting for his life after reportedly trying to take his own life following an incident of corporal punishment and alleged discrimination by school staff. The student’s family is demanding strict action against the school management and teachers involved, leading to a case being filed at the Jnanabharathi Police Station. The boy, studying under the Right to Education (RTE) quota, had a dispute with classmates that escalated to physical punishment by teachers.
The parents claimed that the student suffered injuries and was barred from entering the school premises for the day. They accused the school of bias due to his RTE admission. Overwhelmed by the humiliation and assault, the student, whose parents work in retail and a garment factory, confided in his cousin before attempting suicide by hanging. Fortunately, the cousin intervened in time, saving him from critical harm.
Taken to a private hospital in Nayandahalli, the student is receiving treatment for severe injuries, including spinal cord damage. The distressed parents are urging swift action and accountability from the authorities. Police are investigating the incident, focusing on the allegations of corporal punishment and discrimination by the school administration. The school has not yet responded to the situation.
