Thirteen-year-old tennis talent Srishti Kiran from Bengaluru showcased her skills at the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors J100 event, securing the runner-up position. In a challenging final match against top seed Ellery Mendell from the USA, Srishti fought bravely but ultimately lost 4-6, 3-6. Despite battling cramps during the game, she displayed resilience against her higher-ranked opponent.
The final match started with Srishti taking an early lead of 2-0 and later holding a 3-1 advantage in the first set. However, Mendell fought back strongly to claim the set 6-4. In the second set, Srishti was tied at 3-3 and missed crucial game points due to physical discomfort, allowing Mendell to take control and win the match.
Srishti’s journey to the final was marked by victories over seeded players, including a dominant win over Katia Maria Pemuellar in the opening round and a hard-fought victory against Hanne Estrada Cortes in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss in the final, Srishti’s performance in Guatemala added to her impressive streak of five consecutive ITF junior titles.
Reflecting on her tournament experience, Srishti expressed disappointment at not winning the title but emphasized the confidence gained from competing against strong opponents. With her recent career-best junior ranking of 461 expected to improve further, Srishti remains optimistic about her future in tennis.
