Beypore, a stronghold of the CPI(M) in Kozhikode district, is now witnessing a political shift, challenging State Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas, who is also Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s son-in-law and the current MLA. Riyas, who rose swiftly in the party and government, faces competition from P.V. Anvar, a former legislator, causing uncertainty in the upcoming elections.
Anvar, who recently rejoined the UDF after contesting independently, is gaining support in Beypore, hinting at growing discontent with the current leadership. There are strong sentiments against “family politics” and a perceived anti-incumbency wave, making the electoral race intense and closely watched. The veteran leader C.P. Mayin Haji also suggests a challenging contest ahead in Beypore.
With campaigning intensifying, Beypore gears up for a highly anticipated electoral battle that could potentially reshape its political landscape. Riyas remains undeterred, emphasizing the democratic right of all to contest elections, amidst speculations of a possible shift to the nearby constituency of Elathur.
