The new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal, under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, revealed the portfolio allocation for five Cabinet ministers who were sworn in on May 9, 2026. Dilip Ghosh, BJP’s former national vice-president and ex-West Bengal unit chief, will oversee Panchayat Affairs & Rural Development and Animal Husbandry. Ghosh, elected from Kharagpur (Sadar) Assembly constituency, previously served as an MLA and Lok Sabha member.
Agnimitra Paul, a fashion designer turned politician and two-time BJP legislator from Asansol (Dakshin) Assembly constituency, has been assigned the portfolios of Women & Child Development, Social Welfare, and Municipal Affairs. Nisith Pramanik, former BJP Lok Sabha member from Cooch Behar and ex-Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, will handle North Bengal Development. Pramanik, elected from Mathabhanga Assembly constituency, has a significant role in the new Cabinet.
Ashok Kirtaniya, a prominent leader from the Matua community and two-time BJP legislator from Bangaon (Uttar) Assembly constituency, will manage the Food & Supplies portfolio. Khudiram Tudu, representing the Santal tribal community, has been given the responsibility of Backward Class Welfare & Development. Tudu, a first-time legislator from Ranibandh Assembly constituency, brings diversity to the state Cabinet.
The upcoming state Cabinet meeting is scheduled for May 18, where the remaining members and their portfolios are anticipated to be disclosed, finalizing the distribution process.
