With support from the Centre’s Integrated Horticulture Development Mission scheme, Bhopal farmer Ram Singh Kushwaha transitioned from traditional farming to professional horticulture. Facing financial challenges, Kushwaha received financial aid from the state’s Horticulture department three years ago. He utilized the National Development Project scheme to construct a 1,000 square feet polyhouse for cultivating flowers like roses and gerberas.
To enhance flower production efficiency, Kushwaha implemented a sensor-based automation system in his polyhouse. This system ensures a continuous supply of water, fertilizers, and pesticides to his one-acre farm, saving time and costs. Kushwaha, who has planted 30,000 hybrid gerbera plants and adopted modern irrigation systems, now supplies his roses and gerberas to Lucknow, Delhi, and Jaipur markets.
Thanks to modern technology and scientific farming practices, Kushwaha now produces 1,500 to 2,000 flowers daily, generating a significant income. The Madhya Pradesh government highlighted his success as a testament to the transformative power of guidance, technology, and government support in turning farming into a profitable venture. Kushwaha, from Barkheda Bondar village, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission scheme’s role in their newfound self-reliance.
