Actress Bhumi Pednekar recently took to Instagram to shed light on the environmental repercussions of plastic waste during the monsoon season. She highlighted how the initial rains not only cleanse the streets but also unveil the significant amount of litter left behind, including plastic bottles, food wrappers, and disposable packaging. Bhumi emphasized the detrimental journey of this pollution as it eventually finds its way into drains, rivers, oceans, and even the food chain.
In a series of posts, the ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ star emphasized, “When the first monsoon showers arrive, they don’t just wash our streets. They also carry everything we have left behind – Plastic bottles, food wrappers, carry bags, single-use packaging.” She urged individuals to contemplate their daily choices, as what starts on the streets often ends up polluting vital water bodies and ecosystems.
Bhumi also previously stressed the critical necessity for efficient rainwater harvesting systems in India’s rapidly expanding urban areas. She highlighted the underutilization of rainwater in cities due to rapid urbanization and increased concrete structures, diminishing the natural water absorption capacity of the ground. The ‘Badhaai Do’ actress underscored the importance of rainwater harvesting to mitigate water scarcity issues faced by many cities post-monsoon.
