Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, also Congress Punjab in-charge, expressed optimism about the party’s chances of forming a government in Punjab in the 2027 assembly elections. Despite tensions within the party led by Charanjit Singh Channi over Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s leadership, Baghel emphasized ongoing discussions with senior leaders and workers, aiming for unity.
Sources revealed an upcoming meeting between Baghel and Channi, expected to exclude Warring. The party’s high command had retained Warring as state chief while appointing Channi to head the Campaign Committee. Baghel, after engaging with party leadership and members, highlighted the enthusiasm and unity prevailing within the Congress in Punjab.
Baghel affirmed his commitment to meeting all party leaders, emphasizing the Congress’s culture of open debate and discussion. He underlined the party’s respect for seniority and contributions of leaders, ensuring recognition and rewards at the appropriate junctures. Predicting a strong victory in the upcoming elections, Baghel criticized the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance failures and downplayed the BJP’s influence on the ground.
