A recent Cabinet meeting in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, endorsed 35 crucial proposals, encompassing significant infrastructure and flood-control initiatives. Notably, the Cabinet sanctioned the development of a Greenfield International Airport in Sonpur, Saran district, with a budget of Rs 1,302 crore for land acquisition. Scheduled for completion by 2030, the airport will enhance regional connectivity in north Bihar.
The state Cabinet’s decision also includes a Rs 70 crore anti-erosion project in Ismailpur–Bindtola to safeguard Bhagalpur from Ganga-induced erosion. This initiative aims to combat annual riverbank erosion, which poses a severe threat to residential and agricultural areas in and around Bhagalpur. The recent approvals underscore the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, disaster mitigation, and social welfare in Bihar.
Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha MP from Saran, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, lauded the state Cabinet’s move, acknowledging the approval of the long-pending demand for the airport. Additionally, during a prior Cabinet meeting in the budget session, various decisions were made, including compensating road accident victims’ dependents, providing free medical treatment to injured migrant workers, and empowering MLA and MP representatives.
