Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary revealed a set of initiatives to reduce government spending on fuel and promote energy conservation. This move follows the prolonged tensions in West Asia due to the Iran-US conflict. The Chief Minister’s actions align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to decrease reliance on petrol and diesel, trim unnecessary costs, and encourage remote work arrangements.
Choudhary shared the decisions on social media, emphasizing the need to limit vehicle usage in Bihar. Measures include reducing ministerial caravans, including his own, and implementing a ‘no vehicle day’ weekly. Echoing Modi’s energy-saving plea, the Chief Minister directed a cutback in the number of vehicles in his convoy and urged officials to attend events without extra vehicles.
Furthermore, all state government departments are instructed to conduct conferences and meetings via video calls. Choudhary urged citizens to opt for public transport like the Metro, buses, and autos instead of personal vehicles. He also advised minimizing palm oil usage in government canteens and promoting work-from-home practices in both public and private sectors.
In a unique move, the Bihar CM called for a weekly ‘no vehicle day’ to encourage a collective effort towards eco-friendly transportation choices for the nation’s benefit.
