Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary unveiled a significant infrastructure project for the state by issuing a tender for the redevelopment of Raxaul Airport. The tender specifically focuses on engineering consultancy services for enhancing crucial airside facilities like the runway, apron, and taxiway. The Chief Minister expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his backing of the initiative.
The revamp of Raxaul Airport is viewed as a crucial move to bolster connectivity in Bihar’s border areas, especially along the India-Nepal corridor. Once finalized, the endeavor is anticipated to improve air travel accessibility for Champaran region residents, fostering trade, tourism, and local economic growth. This endeavor underscores the dedication of the state government to expedite development and fortify infrastructure capabilities.
This project is particularly significant for districts such as East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar, where locals presently rely on distant airports for air travel. Currently, passengers from these regions often journey to Darbhanga to catch flights to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Bihar presently operates airports in Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Purnea, with upcoming Greenfield airport projects approved in Saran, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur.
Moreover, an airport is in progress at Bihta on the outskirts of Patna. The ongoing construction at the site indicates progress. Officials anticipate that the Raxaul Airport initiative will significantly enhance regional connectivity, bolstering Bihar’s economic growth. Raxaul, presently linked by rail and road networks, is poised to experience a surge in industrial activity, tourism, and overall economic development with the introduction of air connectivity.
Located near the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), Bihar’s sole tiger reserve, Raxaul stands to benefit from increased accessibility once air travel services are established.
