Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has transferred Rs 1,100 crore directly to the bank accounts of over 94 lakh beneficiaries in Bihar. This transfer was made under various social security pension schemes using the Direct Benefit Transfer system from Bihar Bhawan in New Delhi. Beneficiaries are now receiving pensions at the rate of Rs 1,100 per month.
Addressing the program, Chief Minister Choudhary mentioned that pension payments will now be regularly credited to beneficiaries’ accounts on the 10th of every month. He urged eligible elderly citizens who have not yet enrolled in the scheme to apply promptly to access the benefits. The state government is dedicated to ensuring the social security of the poor, deprived, and needy individuals.
The Bihar government administers six major social security pension schemes, including the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, and others. Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had raised the pension amount to Rs 1,100 per month before the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. However, there were reported delays in recent months. Chief Minister Choudhary has instructed officials to guarantee timely transfers every month.
Recently, the Bihar government sanctioned an advance allocation of Rs 3,662 crore for the six pension schemes covering May, June, and July. The released amount on Wednesday corresponds to payments for May. Official data shows that Bihar has nearly 1.19 crore social security pension beneficiaries, with over 94 lakh beneficiaries receiving payments in the latest Direct Benefit Transfer.
