The Bihar government’s Home Department has executed a significant administrative reshuffle within the state’s police department, transferring eight senior officers of the Bihar Police Service. This reshuffle, announced through a notification on May 20, 2026, primarily impacts officers in the roles of Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police. The objective behind these transfers is to enhance law enforcement at the district level, boost operational efficiency, and strengthen specialized police units.
The new postings involve key changes like Gaurav Kumar moving from Sub-Divisional Police Officer-II of Patna City to the same role in Sadar, Purnea. Anupesh Narayan, who previously served as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) in Banka, has now been appointed as Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Nirmali. Additionally, Gopal Krishna, formerly with the Cyber Crime unit in Jehanabad, has been reassigned as Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Mohania in Kaimur district.
Furthermore, transfers have been made within specialized units including the Criminal Investigation Department, Traffic Wing, Special Task Force, and Vigilance units. Notable changes include Vikas Kumar’s shift from the Criminal Investigation Department to Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Special Task Force, Patna, and Kaushal Kishore Kamal’s move from Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) in Purnea to the Criminal Investigation Department.
The recent reshuffle aligns with the Bihar government’s ongoing initiatives to fortify policing, enhance coordination among specialized units, and improve administrative efficiency across districts. This move follows a previous significant administrative reshuffle on May 15, where Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary transferred 18 Indian Administrative Service officers to realign key responsibilities within departments, aiming to bolster governance and streamline administrative operations in the state.
