The Bihar government has ramped up its investigation into the Bharat Tiwari encounter case, utilizing both scientific and judicial methods for a thorough inquiry. Senior police officials, led by Additional Director General (Law and Order) Sudhanshu Kumar, highlighted the use of modern forensic techniques and scientific approaches in examining the circumstances of the encounter. The investigation involves analysis by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), scrutiny of technical and digital evidence, collection and verification of physical evidence, and review of available video footage.
Police headquarters is closely monitoring the ongoing investigation, ensuring a continuous assessment of progress. In response to government directives, a judicial inquiry commission, headed by a retired High Court judge, has been established to independently investigate the incident. This commission will delve into the sequence of events leading to the encounter, evaluate evidence and witness testimonies, and present its findings and recommendations to the authorities.
ADG Sudhanshu Kumar disclosed that two separate FIRs, No. 169/26 and No. 170/26, have been filed in connection with the case. Legal actions will be based on the contents of these cases and evidence gathered during the investigation. Initial findings have revealed serious shortcomings on the part of certain police personnel, particularly in the initial handling of the accused. Consequently, five police officers, including the Station House Officer, have been suspended, and departmental proceedings have been initiated against them.
The Bharat Tiwari encounter has sparked widespread political and public discourse in Bihar, prompting calls for accountability from opposition parties, social organizations, and human rights groups.
