Madan Sahani, the Minister for Prohibition in Bihar, announced plans to enhance the state’s liquor prohibition law during an event in Darbhanga. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining the ban on liquor, Sahani disclosed that recent discussions in Patna focused on reinforcing the prohibition regulations. The Minister highlighted the involvement of railway, airport, and border security officials in the review meeting, aiming to intensify surveillance at key checkpoints to prevent the influx of foreign liquor.
The government intends to conduct extensive raids in various locations and deploy advanced scanners to detect illicit liquor transportation, according to Sahani. He warned of immediate detection and severe repercussions for those attempting to smuggle foreign alcohol into the state. Additionally, Sahani revealed plans to register FIRs against company owners involved in seized liquor cases, followed by swift legal actions, including addressing issues related to disproportionate assets.
Efforts to combat liquor smuggling networks were underscored in a recent Prohibition Department review meeting, where officials were directed to enhance inspections on trains entering Bihar and crack down on smugglers. While the focus remains on railway surveillance, concerns have been raised about monitoring road transport due to reports of a significant volume of liquor entering Bihar through roadways.
