The Bihar government has distributed Rs 1,423.94 crore through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to nearly 97.84 lakh beneficiaries under various social security pension schemes. This financial aid supports elderly citizens, widows, and individuals with disabilities across the state. The disbursement event took place at the ‘Sankalp Hall’ in Lok Sevak Awas, Patna, with the presence of senior ministers and government officials.
The government has credited Rs 1,100 into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries as part of the social security pension schemes. The total sum allocated for this initiative surpassed Rs 1,423.94 crore. Going forward, pension amounts will be directly deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts on the 10th of each month through DBT. This move aims to ensure prompt payments and lessen the necessity for beneficiaries to visit government offices for pension collection.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, during the event, highlighted the significance of ‘Bihar Pension Day’ celebrated annually on July 10 and conveyed his regards to all pension beneficiaries. The government’s primary goal is to provide timely financial support to vulnerable segments of society. He mentioned the development visions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s focus on a prosperous Bihar. Social security programs are being reinforced in alignment with these objectives.
Chaudhary emphasized the increase in monthly social security pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100, offering substantial financial relief to numerous senior citizens, widows, and individuals with disabilities. He instructed officials to identify and enroll all eligible individuals not yet covered by the pension schemes. The Chief Minister directed the administration to ensure the inclusion of every eligible beneficiary in the social security pension program promptly and transparently.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Social Welfare Minister Shweta Gupta, and other senior officials attended the program, underscoring the government’s commitment to fortifying Bihar’s social security network through consistent and direct financial aid.
