The Bihar Police have launched a crackdown on individuals showcasing firearms on social media and those attacking police officers. A total of 102 FIRs have been filed, 130 suspects arrested, and 40 illegal weapons seized between May 1 and July 14, 2026, as part of a statewide initiative.
Dedicated social media cells in each district, along with state-level monitoring units, are actively tracking online platforms. Many individuals use firearms in photos and videos to gain popularity, attract followers, or instill fear in society. Such offenders are being identified through digital surveillance and facing legal consequences.
During the campaign, Patna reported the highest number of cases, with 17 FIRs, 29 arrests, and nine weapons seized. Naugachia and Gopalganj each recorded nine FIRs, leading to arrests and weapon recoveries. Sitamarhi and Motihari also saw multiple cases, with arrests and weapon seizures in each district.
The Bihar Police is taking action against those disrupting communal harmony, spreading hatred, making defamatory remarks, or posting objectionable content. Cases are being registered under various legal provisions, including the Information Technology Act and the Arms Act. Since January 2026, 514 cases involving objectionable social media content have been identified.
In a parallel operation, the Police targeted individuals involved in assaulting police personnel. Between July 5 and July 10, 2026, 348 suspects linked to attacks on police teams were arrested. District police units have been instructed to swiftly act against such incidents. Notably, arrests were made in Nawada and Banka districts in connection with attacks on law enforcement.
The Police expressed concern over assaults on Dial-112 emergency response teams and warned of strict legal action against offenders. Citizens, especially the youth, were urged not to misuse social media or take the law into their own hands. The Police emphasized that criminal records from such cases could impact future opportunities.
