The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police conducted raids at four locations associated with Gopal Kumar, an Executive Engineer of the Rural Works Division in Jhajha, Jamui. A case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act after it was discovered that Kumar had allegedly amassed assets worth Rs 2,00,61,000 beyond his known income sources. Search operations were carried out at his flat in Patna, residence in Kankarbagh, a rented accommodation in Jamui, and his office in Jhajha.
Cash amounting to Rs 40 lakh has been seized during the ongoing searches. The EOU mentioned that the alleged assets are around 81.5% disproportionate to Kumar’s known income sources. The investigation involves scrutinizing real estate holdings, investments, banking transactions, and financial documents for possible irregularities.
The EOU, a specialised unit of the State Police, focuses on probing white-collar crimes and financial fraud. It is dedicated to investigating cases involving significant monetary values, interstate or international implications, and demanding specialized investigative techniques.
