In a significant anti-corruption move, Bihar’s Vigilance Investigation Bureau apprehended a data entry operator red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 at the Circle Office in Bettiah, West Champaran district. The incident caused a stir within the government office and became a major talking point among employees.
The accused had allegedly solicited the bribe in connection with reactivating a dormant Jamabandi (land record) linked to Baleshwar Mahto, a resident of Barwat Prasaren. Disturbed by this demand, the complainant reported the matter to vigilance authorities, leading to a formal complaint.
Following a preliminary inquiry by Investigating Officer Rahul Kumar, the vigilance team confirmed the authenticity of the complaint. Subsequently, a trap operation was set up to catch the accused in the act of accepting the money. When the money exchange occurred at the Circle Office, the vigilance team swiftly intervened and made the arrest.
The operation, spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Babu Prasad Srivastava, involved other government officials and armed police personnel. The accused, identified as the son of Pramod Mishra from Pakdahar village, will undergo questioning and legal procedures before being presented in the Vigilance Court.
