Krishna Devi from Sheikhpura, Bihar, showcases women’s empowerment through her success in bringing Tanjore paintings to Bihar with her husband Praveen Kumar, thanks to the JEEViKA program’s support. The Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS) under the Government of Bihar, through the World Bank-aided Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (BRLP), is driving this initiative for rural empowerment.

Krishna Devi, despite limited education, mastered Tanjore paintings, a traditional art form, after moving to Tamil Nadu with her husband. Facing challenges upon returning to Bihar during the pandemic, she sought help from JEEViKA to start her art in her village, gradually gaining recognition through exhibitions across India.

Her intricate Tanjore paintings, known for their spiritual themes and vibrant colors, have become popular nationwide, with some pieces selling for ₹3.30 lakh. These artworks, depicting deities like Krishna and Shiva, showcase her dedication and talent, taking months to complete.
