The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation’s ‘Pink Bus’ service in Saharsa district is being well-received by women. They see it as a safer and more convenient option for their daily travels. Currently, one Pink Bus serves the Saharsa district, running from Saharsa to Mirzapur via Rahua, Bada, and Nauhatta.
The Pink Bus departs from Saharsa at 8:30 a.m. daily and returns from Nauhatta at around 4:00 p.m., accommodating 24 passengers. To enhance female passengers’ convenience, a female conductor is onboard. Women hope that expanding the Pink Bus fleet to cover more routes will directly benefit thousands of women in the district and increase their use of public transport.
Women like government teacher Bhavna appreciate the Pink Bus service, considering it a valuable initiative for women. They believe it will help working women travel safely and punctually. Another teacher, Anita, expressed gratitude for the safe and secure service provided by the Pink Bus, especially with a female conductor onboard.
Anita shared her past challenges relying on crowded tempos and buses for her daily commute, highlighting the newfound safety, comfort, and dignity the Pink Bus service offers. Female passengers now enjoy a more secure and comfortable travel experience, particularly benefiting working women, students, and other female commuters. Pooja Jaiswal, a female bus conductor, emphasized that the Pink Bus service was introduced by the state government to ensure women’s safe travels without any hesitation or fear.
