Bilaspur is currently hosting selection trials for the Khelo India National Tribal Games, attracting tribal athletes from Chhattisgarh. The trials, organized by the Chhattisgarh government’s Sports and Youth Welfare Department, offer both online and offline registration options for participants. Athletes are required to present their Scheduled Tribe certificates and Aadhaar cards during registration.
Trials to choose state teams for the competition are taking place in Raipur and Bilaspur from January 6 to January 8, covering seven sports disciplines. In Raipur, trials are ongoing for weightlifting, wrestling, football, and hockey, while Bilaspur is focusing on archery, athletics, and swimming. The selection process in Bilaspur commenced at 9 am at the B.R. Yadav Stadium, featuring events for both men and women with no age restrictions.
Participants have shown great enthusiasm, expressing gratitude for the opportunity provided by the government. Archery national medallist Chandni Sahu praised the facilities at the trials, emphasizing the participation of players from various districts. The objective of the Khelo India National Tribal Games, according to archery coach Shraddha Sonwani, is to uplift and acknowledge tribal athletes.
Coach Durgesh Pratap Singh appreciated the inclusion of international events like recurve and compound in the competition, with a significant number of players already participating in the trials. Sushil Mishra, vice-president of the Chhattisgarh Athletics Association, highlighted the trials’ role in forming a strong team for the upcoming games. Athlete Satyapal Kawachi expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity, believing it will positively influence the youth of Chhattisgarh.
