After reports emerged of a six-year-old girl allegedly being raped in Puri district’s Brahmagiri area, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) criticized the state government for the deteriorating safety of women and children. BJD vice-president Sanjay Kumar Dasburma, in a press conference, expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that such crimes against women are on the rise in the state. Dasburma accused the BJP-led state government of failing to take effective action despite protests and demands from various parties.
He highlighted that such incidents are becoming more frequent in tourist destinations across the state, affecting tourism prospects. Dasburma urged the police to promptly arrest the accused and ensure strict action is taken. Additionally, a BJD fact-finding team will visit the site to gather information and present the party’s stance. The party has also formed a delegation to meet the victim’s family, interact with local authorities, and ensure swift justice and support for the victim.
The victim, a young girl, was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted near her home, leading to serious injuries. The police, led by Puri district’s Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh, registered a case and initiated a search for the accused following information from the hospital. Singh confirmed the police’s efforts to apprehend the suspect who is currently at large.
