The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly trying to incite communal discord between Hindu and Muslim communities. The BJP accused her of remaining silent on controversial remarks made by TMC MLA Madan Mitra, who reportedly stated that “Lord Ram was a Muslim, not Hindu.” National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia questioned Banerjee’s inaction and demanded to know if any disciplinary actions were taken against Mitra. Bhatia claimed that Banerjee’s silence indicated her involvement in communal politics to spark Hindu-Muslim conflicts and secure votes for the upcoming elections. He further alleged that Banerjee was instructing TMC leaders to make provocative statements to garner support. The BJP emphasized that as the head of the state’s Home department, Banerjee is responsible for maintaining law and order. The BJP leader highlighted past instances to support the accusation of Banerjee’s pattern of appeasement politics. The ongoing political rivalry between the BJP and TMC is intensifying as both parties prepare for the 2026 state elections.
