The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of assaulting its workers in West Bengal’s Keshpur block, West Midnapore district. Eight BJP workers sustained injuries during the alleged attack and were taken to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The Trinamool Congress, however, has refuted these accusations.
According to reports, the BJP held an internal meeting in the Ramakata area of Keshpur block’s Ward No. 7 on Tuesday evening. Following the meeting’s conclusion, as BJP workers were returning home, they were reportedly assaulted with bamboo sticks and other weapons.
The BJP further claimed that multiple motorcycles were damaged during the incident. The injured BJP workers suffered injuries in different parts of their bodies and were rescued to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. In response to the attack on its members, the BJP organized a demonstration in front of the District Superintendent of Police’s office on Tuesday night.
Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, inquired about the situation via video call upon learning of the incident. He spoke with Tanmoy Das, the president of the BJP’s Ghatal organisational district, to understand the details of the event and check on the injured individuals. Adhikari also encouraged the continuation of protests against the incident.
In a show of protest, BJP workers held another demonstration in Keshpur on Wednesday morning. Adhikari announced plans for a future protest in Ramakata, Anandpur, in the coming days. On the contrary, the Trinamool Congress dismissed the BJP’s claims. Keshpur Trinamool Congress leader Mohammad Rafiq stated that the BJP workers were involved in an internal conflict after a gathering in the jungle, which led to altercations and harassment of women, denying any involvement of TMC members in the incident.
