Allegations have surfaced regarding the swift passing of the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2025 by the Congress-led government during the Belagavi Winter Session. BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra criticized the Bill, claiming it was enacted to stifle opposition voices without proper debate.
Vijayendra expressed concerns over the impact of the legislation on democracy. He cited instances where individuals, including Hindu activist Vikas Puttur and Bajrang Dal member Sharan Pumpwell, faced restrictions and legal actions for their activities. The BJP leader also accused the government of targeting those identifying illegal immigrants and attempting to ease bail for certain offenders.
Moreover, Vijayendra accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of divisive tactics, alleging attempts to create regional tensions and portray himself as a South Indian leader. He criticized the government’s financial management and questioned the allocation of tax revenues, emphasizing the need for equitable development across Karnataka.
Highlighting the importance of fair tax distribution and effective governance, Vijayendra urged for a balanced approach to address grievances and ensure holistic progress for the state. He emphasized the need for constructive dialogue between the state and the Centre to resolve differences and promote overall welfare.
