The BJP’s Telangana unit has accused a “systematic deletion” of North Indian voters in Hyderabad, seeking the State Chief Electoral Officer’s intervention. They claim that the ruling Congress party and AIMIM are colluding to remove Hindi-speaking and North Indian-origin residents from voter lists. The BJP delegation, led by State President N. Ramchandra Rao, lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, expressing concerns about fair representation for migrant populations.
The BJP alleges that the state government is using Booth Level Officers to disenfranchise specific communities. They accuse the Congress government and AIMIM of targeting North Indian voters due to their perceived support for the BJP. The BJP delegation also highlighted challenges faced by non-Telugu-speaking residents, demanding that BLOs visit every household and election forms be printed in English for better understanding.
Rao emphasized the need for a thorough verification to identify and remove illegal immigrants from voter lists, including those in Rohingya and Bangladeshi camps in Hyderabad. He defended the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), stating that the NRC is a procedural necessity and the CAA will be implemented for eligible refugees seeking citizenship.
