BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari and Congress’ Ghanshyam Singh filed their nomination papers for the Datia Assembly by-election on Monday. Tiwari submitted his papers in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal, and other senior BJP leaders, emphasizing party unity. He expressed gratitude to Narottam Mishra and sought support for the BJP’s victory.
In a separate event, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh filed his nomination with the backing of prominent leaders like Digvijaya Singh and Jitu Patwari. Singh exuded confidence in winning, citing discontent among BJP workers over Mishra’s exclusion as an advantage for the Congress.
The BJP announced its list of star campaigners for the bypoll, featuring Narottam Mishra alongside key leaders like Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Mishra’s inclusion is noteworthy following protests over his initial exclusion from the contest, indicating efforts to appease dissatisfied party members.
The Datia by-election was triggered by the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti under the Representation of the People Act. The nomination papers will undergo scrutiny on July 14, candidates can withdraw until July 16, polling is set for July 30, and the vote count will occur on August 3.
