In a surprising move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Abhishek Debroy as the new President of its Tripura state unit, replacing Rajib Bhattacharjee. The announcement came from BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, with Debroy taking over the leadership role.
Debroy, a 44-year-old first-time MLA from Matarbari Assembly constituency, had been a prominent figure within the party’s Tripura state committee. He entered politics through student activism and youth movements, eventually joining the BJP in 2017 after a background in the National Students’ Union of India and the Youth Congress.
The appointment of Debroy as the state BJP President has been welcomed by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and outgoing President Rajib Bhattacharjee, along with other senior party members. Both Saha and Bhattacharjee expressed confidence in Debroy’s leadership and vision for the party’s future growth in Tripura.
