The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated that the recent assault on Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was a result of public discontent towards the previous ruling party in West Bengal. Banerjee faced severe heckling in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas district, as he visited a party worker affected by post-poll violence. BJP MP Dinesh Sharma justified the public’s anger but emphasized the importance of upholding the law.
Reacting to the incident, Sharma urged against responding to violence with violence and condemned any form of aggression. BJP MP Rahul Sinha highlighted the widespread public resentment towards Trinamool Congress leaders, citing instances of public outrage and protests. Sinha emphasized that while the BJP does not endorse such attacks, the public’s reaction reflects their dissatisfaction with the previous administration.
Acknowledging the efforts of law enforcement in protecting Banerjee during the assault, BJP MP Soumitra Khan commended the Bengal Police. Khan attributed the public’s reaction to the alleged atrocities committed by Banerjee and emphasized that the incident was a manifestation of people’s frustration. BJP MLA Sanjay Kumar Singh echoed similar sentiments, condemning the attack while acknowledging the underlying resentment among the populace.
