A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in Telangana municipal elections reportedly died by suicide in the Maktal Municipality of Narayanpet district. Erukali Mahadevappa, who was contesting from ward number 6, was found hanging at his residence. Allegations surfaced that Mahadevappa faced intimidation from opponents after filing his nomination.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident and conducted a post-mortem examination on Mahadevappa’s body. The BJP candidate’s family claimed that he had been under pressure to withdraw from the election race and may have taken this extreme step due to threats received. The BJP has blamed the ruling Congress party for the candidate’s suicide and is planning a protest in Hyderabad.
In response to the tragic event, the Telangana BJP accused the Congress party of creating a hostile environment that led to Mahadevappa’s death. The party criticized Rahul Gandhi and the Congress for allegedly stifling democracy and intimidating political opponents. The BJP emphasized the importance of upholding democracy and supporting grassroots leaders like Mahadevappa.
