After the initial counting round for the Falta Assembly constituency repolling, BJP candidate Debnagshi Panda is in a comfortable lead over rivals. The data from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in West Bengal shows that the BJP candidate has garnered 9,534 votes, with CPI(M)’s Sambhunath Kurmi at 448 votes and Congress candidate Abdur Razzak at 225 votes. Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan, formerly influential in Falta, is currently in fourth place with 210 votes.
Altogether, there will be 21 counting rounds, with the final result expected by 1 p.m. BJP supporters outside the polling center have already begun celebrating and sharing sweets. A BJP supporter mentioned that Falta voters were able to cast their votes freely during the repolling, unlike in previous elections marked by intimidation.
On May 4, results for 293 out of 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal were declared, excluding Falta. BJP secured 207 seats, significantly surpassing Trinamool Congress’s 80 seats. Congress won two seats, CPI(M) and AISF each won one, and AJUP’s Humayun Kabir triumphed in Naoda and Rejinagar. If the BJP candidate wins in Falta, the ruling party’s Assembly count will reach 208.
