The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserted that West Bengal witnessed a higher number of Muslim fatalities in the past three years than any other state in India. The state president of BJP, Samik Bhattacharya, urged the Muslim community to analyze the death toll within their community in West Bengal and contrast it with figures from states like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, emphasizing the stark difference.
Bhattacharya highlighted incidents in West Bengal where Muslim Trinamool Congress activists were reportedly killed by their counterparts from the same party, often categorized as internal conflicts within the ruling party. He criticized the CPI(M) for filing an FIR against the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, over alleged communal remarks made during the Dol Yatra festival.
Addressing concerns about the Election Commission of India’s preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, Bhattacharya expressed optimism for peaceful polling this time. He noted that the state had not witnessed a truly peaceful election since 2011, attributing this to the end of the Left Front regime and the subsequent political landscape changes.
