The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed confidence in its prospects in the ongoing Assembly elections across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry. BJP anticipates growth in Kerala and a significant victory in West Bengal. Counting of votes is in progress, with final results expected by the end of the day as trends emerge through multiple counting rounds.
BJP’s national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, highlighted the party’s expectations for the election outcomes. He mentioned potential growth for BJP in Kerala, a strong return in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, a significant comeback in Assam, and a predicted mega win in West Bengal. Poonawalla also criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her allegations against the Election Commission of India and the central security forces, labeling it as a “pre-poll Bahana.”
In West Bengal, voter turnout hit a record high of 92.93%. However, counting is currently ongoing for 293 out of 294 Assembly constituencies due to re-polling in the Falta Assembly constituency. Assam, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is showing signs of consolidation, with the BJP-led NDA likely to secure a hat-trick victory.
Tamil Nadu witnessed an impressive 85.1% voter turnout, with the traditional DMK and AIADMK contest disrupted by the entry of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Meanwhile, Kerala is witnessing a closely contested election as the Left Democratic Front aims for a historic third consecutive term under Pinarayi Vijayan, while the United Democratic Front is projected to secure around 72 seats in the 140-member House.
