The BJP criticized the Himachal Pradesh Congress government for raising entry fees and introducing a FASTag-based collection system starting April 1. The opposition called this move a direct blow to the state’s economy, tourism, and the public. The entry fee for private vehicles from other states will increase from Rs 70 to Rs 130, with small cargo vehicles facing fees of up to Rs 170.

No toll will be charged for vehicles leaving the state, and the toll must be paid at the first entry barrier, with the receipt valid for 24 hours statewide. The government plans to offer concessional quarterly and annual tokens for frequent travelers at the barrier. The BJP expressed concerns that the increased taxes on various vehicles would raise the cost of goods, leading to inflation and burdening the common man.

The opposition party criticized the government for prioritizing revenue collection over public welfare. They highlighted the contradiction in promoting self-reliance while implementing policies that harm industries, tourism, and transportation. The government aims to generate Rs 185 crore from 55 toll barriers, indicating a focus on revenue maximization rather than public convenience.

The BJP warned that the decision could have severe economic repercussions, affecting tourism and employment in the state. They pledged to advocate for the people’s interests and emphasized that the public would respond to such policies. Starting April 1, buses, trucks, commercial vehicles, construction machinery, and oversized vehicles will face increased toll charges.
